Grim's mind wondered as he looked around the clearing at his new command; weeks of training had bonded them reasonably well and he knew most of their strengths and weaknesses. But he still did not know how a team of five could possibly accomplish what they had been formed for. He mentally shrugged and put his attention back to the briefing, no point worrying about what he could not change.

"Alright. This will be our last training mission in the forest." he paused to let the import of his words sink in. The last mission was always a test. "Our mission is to get to the training facility at Deep Green, and put red stickers on everything in sight." he smiled slightly.

"Everything with a sticker is considered blown up. So go for high value targets before you stick any on the forehead of the guys guarding the gate." He smiled more as his squad absorbed the joke without humor; the field was not the place for hilarity. "There will be trainees on duty at the base, but command has hired somebody else to hunt us through the forest. Command would not tell me who they are, but my sources seem to think that a squad of Harkani has been deployed here."

"These guys are supposed to be good, but I have never worked with them before. So be more careful then usual, they are probably already out looking for us now; and they know our destination. Standard hand pattern; maintain communications at all times. Move out."

As the five melted into the trees a bulge color blossomed from the side of a nearby rock, colors shifting and morphing as a human-like shape revealed itself. The Harkani grinned as it emerged from its hiding place, the joy of the hunt starting to flow through him, he could feel his comrades moving into position along the human’s path.

Kahn opened his mouth and a shockwave of sound erupted from his throat as he flowed into the trees, colors shifting in the shadows. The hunt had begun.

Description

Created by the Avarkan collective as a gift to the Harkani during a border skirmish with Galarens the Avarkani bio armor has served the Harkani with only minor modifications ever since.

Bio armor made up of any combination of four layers consisting of the following:

A myomer suit

The Myomer suit is a latex-like covering that is made individually for each Harkani, fitting them like a second skin. The myomer acts like an extra layer of muscle that the Harkani can use to augment their strength; the bonuses are not super human but still helpful in many situations.

Ceramic plates

The Avani bio-ceramic is a ceramic like material that is created in Avani habitats for all sorts of construction. In the bio armor, reinforced ceramic plates can be attached to either the myomer suit or any other clothing being worn. The placement of these plates depends on what the individual Harkani want to protect most but is usually joints and important internal organs.

A ceramic exoskeleton

The exoskeleton is a web of small ceramic tubes that are attached to the myomer suit. It does not give the protection of ceramic plates, but reinforces the myomer and can give greater stability.

A chromatophore cloak

The chrom cloack is probably the most unique aspect of the armor. When not being worn it appears similar to a large poncho, when put on by the Harkani however it changes dramatically. The cloak is woven with tiny strands of myomer and ceramics giving it the ability to change shape, tensing here, billowing there allowing the Harkani to break up their shape enough to blend into environments and objects such as rocks and grass. The operation of one of these cloaks, however, is not a simple process; controlling the muscles of the chrom cloak is a skill that takes a long time to master, and this is with the enhanced abilities that the Harkani need to control it at all. It is theoretically possible that a computer interface could be created to control the cloak, but it would certainly require a neural interface. Thankfully the other part of the chrom cloak is automatic; the chromatophore skin that makes up the material of the cloak automatically changes color to fit in with the surrounding area. This does not, however, provide invisibility to the wearer. A cloaked Harkani can still be seen, they simply make themselves appear the same as the scenery.

Cost

Unique to the Harkani

Availability

Unique to the Harkani, it would only be awarded to any outsider in unusual circumstances. But the possibility does exist if any Harkani soldier respects an outsider enough.
