July 2010 Challenge

Winner: Sarantus (Bobby)
Submission link: Back Page Blurb

Date: June 28th -- July 11th.

Length: 1 - 2 paragraphs.

Reward: $10 gift card.

You will need to create a back page for a fictitious novel that takes place in RabiKi--Prime or RabiKi--Fargoth. You don't have to write the book just develop an idea of a story you could create...then write the back page for it. The back page is a very short description about what the book is about, and it's one of the main hooks to draw readers in. I suggest reading the back pages of several to get an idea of what it is supposed to be like. Here's a couple examples:

Legend of Drizzt:

Hostile in ways that a surface-dweller could never know, the tunnel-mazes of the Underdark challenge all who tread there. Among these souls are Drizzt DoUrden and his magical cat, Guenhwyvar. Exiled from his drow homeland, Drizzt must fight for a new home in the boundless labyrinth. Meanwhile, he must watch for signs of pursuit--for the dark elves are not a forgiving race.

Enders Game:

Intense is the word for Enders Game. Aliens have attacked earth twice and almost destroyed the human species. To make sure humans win the next encounter, the world government has taken to breeding military geniuses--and then training them in the arts of war...The early training, not surprisingly, takes the form of games...Ender Wiggin is a genius among geniuses; he wins all the games...He is smart enough to know that the time is running out. But is he smart enough to save the planet?

The stories will be judged on originality, readability, and the rabiki.com style guide.

Feb 2010 Challenge

Winner: ilKhan Ozy (Ron Butts)
Story link: Final Farewell

Length: 800 - 1500 words.

You must use at least one of the intelligent species that have been discussed here in the Archives or are still being discussed in the brainstorming area on the forum, and you must also use two other submissions, each from a different category. The submission you pick to base your story from must not have been created by you. For example, I could write about the Galarens, pressure liquid bomb, and bio armor. The Galarens are a species created by Ozy, the pressure liquid bomb is a weapon being brainstormed by ArmarkExplorer, and the bio armor is a piece of equipment created by Caelum...three categories, and none of the submissions were created by me.

The this story must be about a hero of some type.....somebody that goes beyond his or her self, to save someone, from something.

The stories will be judged on originality, readability, and the rabiki.com style guide.

The method of judging is still up in the air, but I'm thinking about using a panel of judges not currently members of rabiki.com.

The competition will start on February 16th and will end on February 28th at midnight.
