I'm in the process of writing my first novel, and enjoyed the world-building part of it so much that I wanted to give others the opportunity to do the same...that's why I set up this website...so people can world-build (write). The area called the Writers Group is for individuals who want to create stars, planets, ships, etc...and short stories to go along with them if they like. Here's an example--AIR Unit created by Sarantus.

RabiKi is a place for Game Masters and players. Science fiction is one of my passions, so I'm really open to hosting any sci-fi game here on the forums...weather that be StarWars, StarTrek, Babylon 5, or an RPG that you designed. If you interested in hosting games here, just send me a private message and we'll talk it out....although since the forums are in English, and your games are probably played in Polish, that might be a little difficult for some players. Check out the Tactical Controls for a place to host games.

RabiKi is a place for artists. I'm not much of an artist when it comes to drawing, painting, or digital art, but there is a forum for those who want to discuss their sci-fi artwork.

*********** Future Development

Rabiki is a place for programmers. I initially had a few forums set up for programmers who wanted to create sci-fi games, but I decided to take it off to make the site less confusing...I will probably add this section later if there is interest.
I have no website, and even if I had, it would be in Polish. If you want to know/see anything more, ask.
You're planning to have a huge universe, but what will exist inside? What will be the purpose of it? Hosting games? Writing stories? What would it be?
I find regular rules of role-playing too restraining, and the path I follow is rather odd of an outsider. My players have no teams, character sheets, or health points. If my technical conditions were better and I coded an interactive character sheet, it would show no numbers nor parameters, but specific wounds (instead of health points), amount of tiredness of particular muscles, technical quality of body modifications installed, to make the player know only as much, as his/her character can feel. That's my way of doing things, it worked quite well so far.

Working together... Very good for me. What do you suggest?
Sounds like we have a lot of the same interests...I would enjoy working together. Do you have a website for your world/universe? Two planets are plenty for an awesome gaming experience--unlimited stories to be told. I'm a self-taught RPGer with little experience, but love to play...I'm currently using this book for my games. I occasionally host a pen & paper game at my house, but have not done much gaming outside of that.

My overall plan for the forums is to have one huge universe with many stars, planets, cultures, species, etc...each following the same basic laws of physics, but each a world to itself. If someone wanted to, they could come and build their own little corner of the galaxy...perhaps an unexplored area where there is no large scale space travel...maybe two small planets that know nothing of life beyond their star.

I'm currently working on the human expansion (about 1000 Light Years). That leaves a lot of room for the unexplored...every person on earth could create their own unique star with planets, and there would still be room for more.

My world, The Universe, is a science-fiction world, with mild cyberpunk aspects, with a setting not connected to the real world at all. It's set in a single solar system with two habitated planets, two moons, and an asteroid belt. I've never really been a fan of far interstellar travels, supa-fast starships or anything this sort. I concentrate on those two planets most of the time, creating their culture, history, politics, technology, etc. Currently I'm working on renders illustrating The Universe, and youth subcultures and gangs.
To me, the roleplaying part appears most important in the entire world-building process. Univ is 3 years old, when I started it, I was a total newbie, so the world today looks a lot different from what it was like in 2005. But since then, I've been hosting sessions for players. As for today, I have 7 to 10 players, it's difficult to count them because of long intervals between specific sessions. I'm Polish, so my players are Poles and I've never tried to make Univ international. Concluding, the world was made to host roleplays inside it.

Star Wars RPG? You mean some specific one? While I consider Star Wars a good source of solutions for problems of multi-species multi-planetary communities, but generally this world is too large for me.

I have some experience with programming, and since oldest times I was planning some applications serving as visualising tools of the roleplay. During 2008 I've done some extensive work in this direction, coding a space flight simulator and an artificial programming language, but the lack of time made me suspend these projects. As for now, The Universe is pure roleplay.

As I can see, you are experienced in fields of advertising, planning, finding people wanting to help, and similar. Maybe we could begin some cooperation?
There's not too many yet. When we initially started, there was a small group that had some pretty good brainstorming sessions, but that has for the most part died down. I've really not advertised the forums much at all...they are open for the few who happen upon it, but the big push is yet to come. I'm working to get other stuff set in place first....networking with other sites, writing my novels, designing pages, setting up a store front, etc... So were not abandoned, just not really started.

I enjoy the gaming side too, but have not made it that far yet. What types of games have you been involved with? Do you like StarWars RPG? Eventually I'd like to see games set in the RabiKi universe along with a variety of other sci-fi games.
Hello,
I am a Gamemaster and founder of a small semi-sf world and a roleplay set in it. I encountered your forum while doing some research on planet-making. As I can see, the place is rather abandoned. While the site admin is still posting, no one else seems to be here. The Play-By-Post section, IMO the most important one, is empty. I've only found some interesting posts in Brainstorming sections, and I'm happy with this, but I'd like to know, is there anybody still in here?
Full article at Amateur Economists - I don’t count myself as a visionary, but there is a specter looming over mankind’s collective head, and I’m not sure if I can see how we can avoid it.

In my opinion, creating good artificial intelligence is just a matter of time. Already researchers have created a robot that uses a rat’s brain, and the future consists of computers that can think just as we do. The field of robotics is also growing rapidly, and powered by a human brain, we can have robots that walk, talk, and comprehensively pass the “Turing Test”
Tinkonov - That is a term that I have heard somewhere before, either of my own creation, or in some novel, but I liked the sound, and also enjoy giving things a working title, so the Tinkonov it was

Palmetto Fleet Yards - This is a hold over from another site. For some of my old works, I would assign each its own page, until i decided to start dumping them all into one thread, and so Palmetto Fleet Yards was born. Home to the Ragnar, Manassas, and Corpus Christi class vessels (Star Trek Universe)

I chose Palmetto because at the time it seemed to be a cool name, and I really needed a fleet yard for the Ragnar to be built at, without going rip-off and doing Utopia Planita or Columbia
But this lump of ice and rock is beginning the return leg of a 22,500-year journey that will take it to a distance of 150 billion miles, nearly 1,600 times the distance from the Earth to the Sun, according to a team of researchers from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS-II).
That's a start But could you make it longer? Maybe even put it down in the left corner (could be anywhere really), and put the units of measure on there also. That way a visitor to the site can quickly look and say, "Oh... that ship is 28 meters".

This will be very helpful when comparing ships....most of the images will be close to the same size, but actual ship sizes differ greatly. For example a Banshee class ship is very small...really a personal craft, but a carrier class ship can carry 10's of thousands of people.

Just had another cool thought. It would be cool later on to create a large image showing all our ships kinda like this one from Star Trek.
LAUREL, MD. — Pluto got the boot from planethood in 2006. But one of the dwarf planet’s moons, Charon, could get an upgrade, thanks to discussions August 14 during the Great Planet Debate Conference in Laurel, Md.
There would be standard airplanes...also probably a few Banshee class ships that could fly in the atmosphere and space.
Ok, perhaps I need to read more before I start going off on my own tanget

Perhaps Quantum Non-Locality could be an answer to your Communications Problem, although it has been said that this method is not quite how it is supposed to work, but in 2000 years or so, it may be plausible.
The main idea is to develop a unique method of FTL....were trying not to copy any existing model out there, but it's tough to be totally unique and remain in the realm of Sci-fi.
The two methods we've discussed so far for FTL are....actually traveling faster than light (similar to StarTrek), and slipspace which requires a start and end gate, and is almost instantanious. I would like to use them as a standard for space travel for the human expansion.

I'm definitely not opposed to other methods of FTL, so long as they are plausible. What if you developed another FTL method for a different species. This would require that you have a rough idea of the type of species and where they are from, but you could focus on thier FTL travel for now. And later you could add a species write-up, and a star and planet write-ups.

komplex wrote:that's all good...

ST theory of FTL ships was that in order for them to achieve warp speeds, they're ships would become an anti-matter ship, so when they we're at impulse, the shipwould have weighed its true weight(millions of tons) but when they activated the warp engines, it would inject the anti-matter into the engine, to make the ship weigh 0 tons, therefore FTL travel was capable, maybe e could use a similar convention.

No.

The M/ARC (Matter/Anti-matter Reaction Chamber) Is merely the energy production point. The Matter and Anti-Matter meet and do a total conversion into energy. The way they achieve superluminal velocities is through the use of "Warp Coils" some wonderful technology developed by doctor Cochrane. The M/ARC merely creates high energy plasma that is then used to power the ship. A shunt is placed off of the main exit for the plasma to channel it to the nacelles. This plasma then contacts the Warp Coils, made of some fancy materials I dont remeber right now. Once the coils have stored enough of this energy, they trigger a shift into subspace by creating a "Warp Bubble" around the ship. At no point does the actual ship move. The bubble causes the subspace in front of the ship to contract while the subspace to the aft of the vessel expands. Each warp factor is the application of another bubble (e.g. Warp 1 = 1 layer, Warp 5 = 5 layers) that's why there is an inconsistency in the increasing warp factors. Also, the energy required to produce each level goes up in correlation to each extra layer. That's why Warp 10 is unachievable. The energy requirements are so enormous it is impossible to achieve that energy level (keep in mind that they are doing a total fuel to energy conversion). The Warp layers are how Trek writers escape relativity. When veiwed from the outside, the layers look similar to a Doppler Effect.

HOWEVER, Romulan ships don't use M/ARCs, they use micro-singularities, trapping the gravitational energy to power their ships. With this it may be possible to achieve Warp 10+. However Federation scientists have also invested research into sub-subspace, also known as Transwarp. The Borg have the ability to project Transwarp conduits into any point in the galaxy from one of their transwarp hubs, as seen in VOY: EndGame.

The Bad thing about this is, I wrote this entire correction from memory, As you may tell I am an extreme Trek Nerd
Memory Alpha - Warp Core (M/ARC)
Memoery Alpha - Warp Drive Main Page
Wiki - Romulan Singularity Drives
The entanglement of the other particles being in the same shape and form. How this happens is by the use of some wonderful invention conceived by the oft-lauded Dr. Zaphod Beeblebrox of Lupin II (or some such). Now once the entanglement has been made, the ship then uses another of the good doctor's inventions to convert the original party into energy or some such deal.

That is the gruesome way, in so far as the original party never "physically" travels to the destination, but to any outside observer, the ship and all of its inhabitants have made their journey safe and sound.

Perhaps some other way can be defined, but if I am reading everything correctly, Terry wishes us to shy away from terms and contraptions such as Hyperspace and Warp-drive.

A notso bad way is to be forthcoming
komplex,

Would you put your submission into template format. I like the idea, and think we could develop it better by utilizing a few templates. You might need a couple but I'd start with a Star System, and define the star and planets where the Tis'Rah are located. Remember a template is just to help you think through your ideas...you can add other info if you feel it is necessary.
As you work your way through the various forums on the website, you may find a few that have already been implemented. This is one of those forums....check out the style manual to see the standard units of measure.

This is one of those standards I want to enforce to give unity among the various submissions on the site.
These ships and classes are from the human expansion...aliens species could have different ones. The example below is pretty cool. Nice work! If you are interested...check out the ship descriptions, pick out something like the Banshee, and try to develop an image for it. I would be interested in working with you to develop these...we can brainstorm them in this forum.

The guidelines for developing images are pretty simple. First, is working with the author...try to find out what the author envisioned in the write-up...try and capture their heart, their passion. If you are creating something that's not based off of a written work, then your free to follow your own vision. Second, producing quality work. One thing that can affect a website, for good or bad, is how it looks visually. While writing is important...people will often decide within a few seconds if they they will stay...or click and go somewhere else.
Perhaps you should check out other works on this particular area.

The Honorverse holds the Solarian League (the name I "borrowed" for my personal empire), which is the hegemon of human affairs, as well as many other smaller polities. Though none can take on the League out right, they are still major players within their local area.

Also, the Battletech deals with the Human race only. In the 1200+ years that they've been FTL capable, they have yet to encounter Aliens. That is an aspect you may want to consider. They aslo have a very detailed history of most of the polities. I have some of the Source books in .pdf format it you would like to read over them.
There is a section for games, found here, but we've not done much with it yet. I've spent most of my time trying to get the world-building section framed out first. Here is the basic idea for the site:

There will be some general guidelines (no time travel) for an example, so that there is cohesion between all published content on the site. I want to encourage creativity...but at the same time make the individual worlds reasonably compatible with each other. ie(I don't want magic taking place on one world, lightsabers on another, etc...) Make since? Hope so, cause I can be clear as mud at times.

There's still lots to do, so as you read through some of the content, and have ideas, please post away.

As I have been told this is still a new site, but, I have been designing ships for a decent while now. Although they may not be as gorgeous as the Enterprise, they still get the job done. What are the guidelines that should e used when designing a ship, or perhaps a planet even. As I said, most of my experience lies with ships and stations. But I do have some experience with map making, not a lot. At the very least, what types of vessels are in use, and what technologies/aesthetic preferences are in use?

This is one of my recent designs, although not my latest:
The USS Shiloh

For some reason, it cuts off the aft end of the ship. Also, I am working on smoothing out the surface, as well as doing more details on the ship. But for now, this gives a pretty good representation don't you think?
I run games under the Legendmaker system. Soon I will have in my possesion either some of the Shadowrun books, D&D, or Battletech. Dunno which, but I will expand.

I am also an avid Sci-Fi fan. I believe that once I learn more of the requirements I may be able to actively participate
Hey ozymandias,

Welcome to rabiki.com! The forums are relatively new, and their is still a lot of stuff to be defined, so we welcome your efforts to help build this new place. I put Rabiki up because I enjoyed the process of world-building my own stories and wanted to share that experience with others. There are a few boundaries defined to help keep all submissions looking like they came from the same universe, but it's very wide open. Were trying to shy away from fantasy and lean more toward hard sci-fi (stuff that doesn't break the known laws of physics).

What kinds of games have you have you played...you mentioned you were a GM?

ozymandias wrote:Anywho, having access to a much wider array of smilies than on my other hangouts, I shall commence to playing with them. Enjoy

I'm always on the lookout for some good smileys

Why not establish a given set of parameters. I've taken high school physics (not physical science, plebes) as well as given my self some of that personal lerinfying.

Anywho, perhaps have one g be equal to say 10 m/s2, it doesn't have to be Terra standard, but it would most likely be used in the early days of exploration. So, perhaps after the many centuries it took to affect a decent Terraform (again Terra centric {I prefer Terra to Earth}) on Mars, Alpha Centauri, or Space Ball 1, would not they be at least somewhat ingrained into the jargon. Plus you have to take into account the various development of dialects and whatnot.

Current Terran time conventions are built from one second equaling 9,192,631,770 periods of Cs-133 (because I cant do superscript I'll do it this way). Now because I'm human, and we like to put C-12 on a pedestal, why not make a Cycle be 10,000,000,000,000 periods of C-12 (I don't know the the exact length of one C-12 period, I couldn't find it online, I'll look later) And so then you have established a decent time reference point

Milicycle (mc)- 10e9
Cycle (cc)- 10e12
Kilocycle (kc)-10e15
Megacycle (mc) - 10e18
Gigacycle (gc) - 10e21

Major time scales could be in thousand *cycle time (1000 gc = 1 Kgc)
and so on, perhaps this is entirely to short
(I think I did that right, don't remember to well right now)

Distance is done so its good

For g, you really don't need all to much difference. Either establish some basic marker (note above reference) or just call one g
1 m/s/s

for my example below we'll be using the 1-1 scale

simple enough

Also in your initial lay down, you say it is ~2000 years (Terran I assume) after now. In the past 2000 years we've had entire Empires rise, fall, come back, split up, and then die again. Would it be safe to say that perhaps some splinter nations have arisen. Not all colonies have to be federal. Unless i just didn't look too deep.

And then on this convention, you could have this instead of the previous write up:

"We'll be in orbit in orbit in 3.6 Kgc, sir."
"Thank you, Ensign. So what can you tell me about this planet?"
"It has a heavy oxygen/phosphorus atmosphere that is breathable--but that I'm not looking forward to. Temperature, pressure, and gravity are all within the habitable range, although at 15.6 g's the gravity is quite strong. And--according to the NCOs--it has the best hunting this side of Tartannon"
"15.6 g's eh? I grew up on Grothtaran--a 14.9 world. It'll be like home, except for the smell. Will our sidearms be enough for the bigger animals or should we unlock the weapons hold?"
"Sidearms should be sufficient, sir."
"and will you low-gravity Martians be joining us for the hunt?"
"Yes sir."
"Good. What's the gravity there, anyway?"
"It was 3.3 sir, pre-terraform. Now it's a comfortable 5.2 g's."
"I bet you were quite the athlete there."
"Thank you sir. Yes sir."
"Well lets see how you handle real weight."

Edit: Also, I would like to point out that sense we are using English (which will likely be dead by then but whatever) would it not make sense to implement it correctly (i.e. Mars is Mars, not mars)
