I could see some groups of humans using them.....behind the scenes of course. I don't see something like this being publically acceptable, but occationally used by rogue groups.

Just wanted to let everybody know, that I'm still here and committed to the site. On a site like this we go through creative spells, and an occational low activity period fuels the next firestorm of ideas.

Just been terribly busy the past month or so. After all, this site is only one of my hobbies....and hobbies sometimes have to be set aside while priorities are completed.

I think we've got a great bunch of people here contributing....and want to encourage you to keep it up.

Right now, my plans are to keep the site up and operational for a long time. I do know things happen in life that sometimes change our plans....that's kinda what happpened on Fargoth. But my long term goals include the development of Prime and Fargoth, as well as the development of my novel series.

It is possible that certain Gala factions may use them. I could see the Great Emperors using them on dissidents and political prisoners. Not many uses in the interim though, unless one of the great houses is feeling especially festive.

From what I can tell it extends life or could be used to extend life, but it also makes the person unreceptive to the world and just slaves away. all in all it wouldn't seem too bad a deal, not having to live out your prison life and possible life extension.

Nah, Lightfireans will stick to normal slave practice till something better comes along.

*oh mai gosh, evil race!*

They seem suited to a majority of heavy-hitting, slow units.

With the support units, the Battery Bots and the Power Hubs sound like they do the same thing. Wouldn't it be more appropriate to combine them into one unit that transports and dispenses energy? It would be much more efficient that way.

The military units will very defense oriented, they protect the area they inhabit aggressively and won't really be invading other races any time soon. They have a growing desire(or greed) for information though which might lead to more aggressive expansion later.

The battery bots and power hubs are basically the same thing(batteries) but considering the amount of energy needed some of them would have to be too big to move and thus become stationary(hubs) where power is gathered, the bots then transport this to where it's needed. That's the rough general Idea anyway, the unit types are still in a branstorming stage though and need a lot of work so the feedback is welcome.

Now I gotta run to my French class...

These suits seem to be biped tanks ... well kinda. Tanks in terms of armor. But, like tanks, they still would have vulnerabilities to fire. If they are completely metal or ceramics, they will be extremely heavy, and therefore significantly more bulky. That would make them more or less fireproof in terms of damage, but the pilot is still pressure cooked.

Alternatively, you could have them made of lightweight materials that are capable of withstanding standard kinetic and to a lesser degree energy weapons, and let their small size and speed make up for the fire weakness.

Here are some older but similar concepts that may shed some light:

http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Clan_Battle_Armor
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Gray_Death_Scout
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Elemental_(battle_armor)

A lead in story would be awesome. I've updated the history a bit. There are now 4 Great Pires as opposed to one, so so basic ideas would need to be tweaked, but nothing that alters the content of the sorry.

If you are going to do that, then you may as well encapsulate the firing solution as part of the shell, that way the entire process is contained in the cartidge loom at muzzle loaders vs conventional weapons. Muzzle loaders are outdated. That way you essential have the same style of kinetic weapon as used today, you just have a liquid propellant instead of a solid peopelltNt.

We could go one of three ways I think, at least that I can think of at the moment.

1. The Amalgam have not yet entered the local bubble, but are instead in a pocket of empty space somewhere outside. They will sit there for a while sending in ships to scout out a way through and map the most interesting path for the ship to take. Stuff like that.

2. They are inside the bubble somewhere, perhaps just moving through it on sublight engines while their ships move around looking for interesting things to do.

3. They are nearing/past the edge of the bubble heading out.

Does anyone have a preference, I think the first two are probably one of the ones we want.

I don't think we need to connect the worlds in any meaningful way.

I was just thinking that we re-use some place names, ships, etc.

Just as a nod towards the fantasy project that helped Terry build Rabiki and is now hosted as part of it all.

The other thing to consider is who the hell invented this thing, and who does and does not use it.

the nastier you make it the harder it will be to realistically add it to the majority of the species as I understand them at the moment.

The Avani wouldn't use, nor would the Eosi from what I know of them. The Gala might I guess. The Lightfireans might use them, but probably not on themselves. But I could br wrong about all of them but the Avani :).

So that leaves you with Humans. You would need to create a segment of humans that have the need (possibly the most important piece of this) and are happy with this punishment.

Possibly an over populated location with a large crime rate, or something like that. But you would also need a reason for the people not leaving said over populated world. Since Rabiki seems, at least to me, to be the sort of place that would allow relatively easy movement between human worlds. They could always put up their hand as indentured servants on a new colony world or something like that.

There many ways to craft an environment that would spawn this sort of technology, I just don't think we have one right now in what I know of Rabiki. So you might need to create one :).

Sounds good to me.

There are two ways to have the amunition work.

One is to have the components being the same as what the weapon uses to project the projectiles.

The other is to have the rounds filled beforehand.

I think the second is the more likely, as the first would significantly slow the max fire rate.

What about you?

This is battle armor, not an environmental suit. I really think that these should be much more vulnerable to fire. Even large tanks and vehicles are vulnerable to fire. What if you make the suits very protective against strong environmental heat, but make them not very good against manmade fire, such as flamethrowers or Molotov cocktails?

The effectiveness against tanks is believable though. It amkes sense that heavy vehicles can punch through these guys.

For Genetic Engineering.....

The idea was to be able to get in and play around with things, and even make new species from an existing species. But what we didn't want to do was to be able to make a totally new species from scratch. Want to avoid the "Spore" type scenario.

Same thing with A.I. We do have artificial intelligence on rabiki.com, but we want to avoid the "Matrix" mentality. We don't want all powerful computers that take over the world. So we've basically said we don't allow them sentience. Perhaps something very close....very intelligent, but not really self aware.

Telepathy....if you can explain it technically. You need to give a scientific reason as to why they can communicate. Not just the "Magical ability to talk out of the blue".

And time travel....well that just makes things messy. We allowed one time event, but beyond that it would be hard to keep track of things. What happened if two years from now someone came along and suggested an idea that went back in time and changed what we've already established. FTL was just more fun to allow.

Think we can get this finalized?

A note from my memory on the speed, FTL speeds were drastically or at least significantly increased by the introduction of Hixoe technology. So, I think we may need a timeline, which could help us determine the viable size of nations and so on at any given time in the past.

This list, as I said was created early in this sites history.

I am open to allowing most anything, so long as it can be agreed upon by the community that the supporting scientific reasons are sound. If you can give me a legitimate reason why the Lightfera know how to modify the genome of species they encounter, then I am not opposed to letting you run with it. But I doubt any major modifications will be able to be undertaken, and even then, only to Lightfera and Wolvends. I say this because it took us quite a while to map the Human genome. Yay, we now what is where, but we still dont know what does what or why. So it will take a great deal of time to determine what does what and all of that. Which means that arbitrarily meddling with genes is bad.

Time travel is a negative. The Hixoe are a unique situation, and the temporal displacement origin story has yet to be confirmed. With that said, Time Travel is impossible, but traveling to Parallel dimensions is not. So it is possible, IMO, to travel to a dimension not unlike our own, but who is to fault a few thousand years difference? Even then, it is only by accessing natural wormholes that these parallel dimensions can be accessed. IMO.

Telepathy as discussed with the Avani is not mystical telepathic abilities, but works more like a biological walkie talkie that is hard mounted into their brains.

Mental Upload or Download is not allowed, and it perhaps explain best here:

Laura wrote:

I know you're not really talking about clones here, but they are a good example for illustrating the problem. Namely, that we don't even know whether consciousness really is a truly persistent state or whether it just seems that way to us. Being the machines ourselves, we naturally have a hard time diagnosing that. Most of us will be prepared to swear that our consciousness has been consistently present throughout our lives, and hasn't changed except for the accumulation of memories and experience. But how can we actually be sure of that?
We know that consciousness can be altered drastically with the use of psychedelics - even permanently. We know that a personality can change due to various factors like stress, drugs, psychotic episodes, injuries, etc.
Consciousness seems very mutable indeed.
But even should such changes take place, the sense of always having been the observer inside doesn't seem to go away in most cases.
Then there's Alzheimer's disease and dementia in general, where the sense of continuity is lost, yet the person still has what appears to be consciousness, even if they eventually live from moment to moment with no sense of past or future.
I think such things call into question the supposition that such a persistent core of consciousness and sense of self really exists, rather than being an emergent phenomenon; the aforementioned 'virtual controller', which would really be nothing more than a means to an end in the evolutionary sense, and ultimately no more 'special' than any other specialized brain structure. The mirror looking into itself.

Elsewhere we also discussed what exactly made a consciousness.

Oh, what exactly is genetic engineering defined as? Is it as little as changing genes, or does it mean making an entire biological being from scratch?

Well, got my machine back. This was a quick rough run to demo what I was talking about.

The Blue is Stable Component 1 of your Death Elixir. THe Purple is Stable Component 2. The Green is a tip punch, that forces a hole into the partition on impact. The round then explodes. I think this may need to be the primary round type of the Harkani, especially if they dont use dense metals for ammo.

That is an interesting idea, but that may do more harm to the prisoner then good.

If you are hyper-recepeptive for an extended period, you will eventually get to the point of sensory deprivation.

THink about it, spreading one weeks worth of sensory information over twenty years.

1 second would be stretched out to about 51 seconds. Think about the amount of sensory information that is placed into 1 second. Light would be considerably red shifted, possibly out of the visible spectrum. Sound would be considerably reduced. Perhaps 1 week is a bit too fast, but I understand what you are saying.

The seeder races are also long gone. Contemporary genetic engineering is not possible. As to the Avani, that I'll has to look into. But that list was created a few hers back. It was buried until Terry brought it back up with that I'll talk it over with Terry.

As far as content goes, I'd like to basically tell what the project is about, how to get involved, and describe the current universe as defined in the pedia (and brainstorming).

Possible Outline:

* What is the Prime World Building Project
* Copyright info
* The idea of brainstorming
* How to take an idea from conception to completeion
* Getting/giving good feedback
* The editing process
* The existing Universe
** Local Bubble
** Species
** Travel
** Time
** History

I don't have a lot to add.....Ozy has done a nice job with the hunting ammo, but I will say this is nice submission. It fits the overall Avani theme....everything looking good.

However we go, we need to make it a punishment. So somehow it needs to be undesirable to whom ever is being punished.

Here's just a quick idea, and you can take it or leave it. What if you could somehow slow the mind, so that 1 week feels like 20 years. Society only pays to support the criminal for 1 week, but in essence they server a very long sentence.

Ya....anytime you have situations like that where things are so impossibly illogical, it zaps all the fun out of it. It's impossible to have science fiction without some some imagination of the unknown.....but you don't want to go too far.

Give enough details to gain their interest, and don't contradict known laws.

Is "Capital City" the name of the city?

Diet Joska still makes me chuckle.....sounds like a light version of Joska ;-)

Something that might help this submission are descriptions of major entities. For example, I've not kept up with this submission (I know shame on me) but Ozy does an awesome job at that. But anyways, Diet Joska is mentioned out of the blue, and I'm unclear as to who/what they are. maybe just a short description right after the first time they are mentioned.

Same thing for ICOCA....just a breif description of what they are.

Quote:

Sectors of Influence

What are you defining as a sector?

So I was on this other Sci-Fi site, right, and got into this RP. Well these guys aren't like us, they don't try to be realistic. One guy controls 1% of the galaxy even though he'd only had FTL drive for 300 years! Not only that, but his FTL drive can jump anywhere in space, no limits, no consequences for going far.

So I get to figure: hey, if you have a drive that can teleport you instantly to any point of the universe, you wouldn't even need ships. Stuff a guy in a pod and teleport it to the enemy's capital and conquer it before they even know what to think.

So what do you guys think. God-modded much? Oh and that isn't the half of it BTW...

This particular suit is very tough, I'd say if a tank hit you in the chest (thickest plate of armor), you could survive it. The suit would be blown to shreds though and you'd probably be unconscious.

As for fire you would need some really strong stuff, they dubble as complete environmental suits so they could survive conditions like you might seen a planets like Venus. However, if the suit is enveloped for too long in heat like that, once the built in air is consumed it would have to pull in new air, if it's too hot to cool you get cooked inside the suit - not fun.
